1966 saw the 327/300hp V8 become standard equipment for the '66 model year, equipped with a 4-barrel carburetor, big intake-valve cylinder heads, and a 2.5" diameter dual exhaust system. Exhaust is ultimately routed through a full dual exhaust setup, producing an iconic Americana V8 soundtrack. Hydraulic calve lifters enable smooth, quiet engine operation, while an automatic choke is more responsive to changes in operating temperature. All-independent suspension on the '66 enables fabulous control via variable rate coil springs and anti-dive geometry within the upper control arms. Outside, new bright metal grille styling denotes the '66 model year from the front, accompanied by new body sill moldings along the side. Inside, the '66 Convertible gains molded deep-twist carpet, newly styled seats, seat belt storage clips on the center console, and a shatter-resistant interior rearview mirror. A radio, blended-air heater/defroster, glove box, and carpeted luggage compartment (providing room while the Soft Top is in the up position) are also all present.
